Which bilstein shock model number for lifted 3rd Gen Runner?
Hey everybody,
Had an interesting experience yesterday and need some clarification to fix what I broke.
I got caught in traffic yesterday and wanted to whip a ˟˟˟˟˟ty but in order to do this had to go over a small median. When I did this I immediately heard a weird noise coming from my rear end. I pulled over and found that my passenger side rear shock compelety snapped in half and was bent over.:pat:
Since I bought this runner used with the Downey adjustable lift already in it, I'm having a hard time trying to figure out if I need extended length shocks to replace the ones I have now.
My question for everyone is if I have the downey adjustable lift kit installed in a 3rd gen runner, do I need to use extended shocks or can I use the standard length. I am going to go with Bilsteins so should I just order Bilstein part #BE5-2451 ?
Thanks for the help! I'll post pics of the blown shock soon. It's pretty amazing.
Late,
E

The longest shock you can safely run is the Old Man Emu N86 firm. It will do quite well with the Downey Adjustable front and Downey rear springs. OME shocks are softer than Bilsteins, so you want the firm model. OME shocks are made for a Toyota Prado, and they just happen to be the perfect length for a lifted 3rd gen. The FJ80 shocks were a complete disaster.
Your other choise is the standard Bilstein shock, it is 1" shorter but works just fine.

Thanks Guys,
I'll place an order for the OME shocks today so I can get a little flex. I also believe I have read that 18" limiting straps are appropriate with the OME shocks. Anyone have any different opinions?

Get your 18" limiting straps here: http://www.mastercraftseats.com/products.html
I got the 4-layer ones made to 18" eye-to-eye, per Steve's recommendation. I also just purchased the OMEN86 firms for the rear.
