Just curious if anyone knows where you can get a set of 5125s for the rear on a 3rd gen 4runner THE ONES WITH THE STUDS ON TOP NOT THE EYE...
Also anyone running these and how they like them.

 

I think I had done some research on these a while back, probably 6-8 months ago. I don't think they had the stud/eye combo in the right size.

Me too. I'm looking for 5100 Series for the rear. No luck for stock ride height; some were 1.25in too short on full extension.

I ordered 5100 Series for the front today. Stock springs. I called Bilstein and they make an adjustable 5100 front shock for the Taco/4Run. 0-2.5 inch preload. It's only available through certain distributors (those who custom order the shock). I should have these next week... yippie.

Any recommendations for the rear if the 5100 is a no go? OME?

I am looking as well for the 5125 but i am doing the PP rear coils lift and I was told to go stock height Bilsteins HD....I want the 5125s but no luck....I wish I could find a match...any ideas

 

I have been running my 5125's for six months, and couldn't be happier. They work great both on and off road.

 

Do you have any experience with the Bilstein HD's for a comparison?
I am getting sick and tired of the stiff ride they give and I am looking for something a little more forgiving on the bumpy rural roads on the way to work.

After 5-6 years my Bilstein HDs have not softened at all.

 

toytec has them already set up for the 3rd gen runner.

I got 5150's for when i lift my 3rd gen

 

I just bought 5125 series for my 3rd gen rear shock and coilover for front.
I believe Toytech's used A-463-H5 which is good for 3inch lift.
but too long for 1-2 inch lift.

So I purchased 6252-H5 with eye to stud.
Can't wait to install them!

 

i've considered getting the 5125s from toytec with the eye to stud adaptors, but sonoran steel now sells a 5125 with a stud on top, but will only sell with the kit. i guess having the eye to stud adaptor wouldnt be bad just thought i might could find the same ones ss is selling with the kit

Please post/update when you have your eye to stud installed. I'd like to know if full stuff fully compresses the shock or if there is some shock travel remaining.

Is the eye to stud (e2s?) from Bilstein and is it the same diameter stud as the oem toyota?

BTW, is this eye to stud being installed on stock springs (which year 4runner)?

Noted. I will do that.
reason I picked this shock is to match coilovers. (no rear shock released for 3rd gen from DR,SAW,etc)
the eye to stud adapter for the top adds about 1.5" to the collapsed
and extended length measurements.
It means less stroke than stock.
Can't wait to see result myself.
BTW mine is 96' 3rd gen.

No special coupler piece, just straight billy.
You can't buy just the shocks, but you can buy just the rear setup or the whole enchilada.

I bought the 7.2 a couple weeks ago and finally had a chance to try it this past weekend. I got say, "DAAAAAAAMN, what a change."
Going down a washboard road at "baja speed" and not a slip. Went over some pretty rough spots too. Just glided right over while stayin' in control. Did up hill 4lo stuff where you had to keep the speed up to get over a rock lip. Soaked up the hit with no probs. Did some slow crawlin' over rocks. Articulation was superb.

Gotta say, Steve knows his suspension stuff. Can't go wrong with it.

Thanks. Mines a 99 with the extra 1in of lift from the factory. So the 1.5 in of extra length should be just fine. What about the bottom eye, will it bolt on or did you find new bushings?

Are you serious? A turbo diesel? I'll assume a conversion... but where? who? How much? How do you like it?

the bottom eye is no problem to install. just bolt on with my old 5100 rear shocks. it should be same.

 

I installed 5125 rear shocks today.

Here is the pic compare between HD shocks I took off.


This is after install 5215 and 906 coil. This is bad pic,I will retake this weekend.
when installing DR coilover and UCA to front.

 

How is the ride?

 

That stud to eye adapter is a really bad idea on a 3rd Gen 4Runner. The rear axle moves forward and back when the tires go up and down and side to side as one tire stuffs up high and the other droops low, it does this at the same time. With the stud the very intelligent people at Toyota provided for movement in both directions at the same time. Now with this stud adapter you only have movement forward and back, not side to side, if you drive it on the street, nothing will happen, but if you actually use it off road, the side to side movement will bind/bend the shock. That being said if the 3rd Gen 4Runner had rear leaf springs, the stud adapter would be fine, but it does not have rear leaf springs as they do not move side to side only forward-back, a-la the Tacoma with it's dual eye rear shocks.

Which is why we had Bilstein make the correct shock for us with the stud at the top.

Well I don't feel much diffrence with this but riding on street is little bit softer.
I changed front to DR coilover and works awsome so I feel like I need to think about something better for rear.

I see your writing totally makes sence. only reason I tried this shock is to match Coilover (up-side-down shock) Because DR has rear shock on web but it's not released for 3rd gen
Do you think I don't really care about to match same style of front for rear and just go back to 5100 Bil rear shocks?
