Best Product to Clean Tran Pan

I'm preparing to change the transmission fluid to Amsoil and wondered what all you folks use to clean the pan and the old gasket off with.

Any last minute tips would be helpful also. I'm following the Amsoil directions for this project.

Thanks all

I just wipe it out with paper towels, and wipe the gasket surface clean with a shop rag. Nothing special. If you want to get it squeaky clean, spray it off (after wiping it out) with Brake Cleaner. Leaves no residue.

Thanks folks. Seems like brake cleaner is the way to go. Any other recommendations?

I believe Toyota uses an RTV type of sealant on the pan instead of a rigid gasket. Just be sure to get all the old 'gasket' material off both surfaces and make sure they are clean and dry before applying the new sealant. If you have access to one, I always found a wire buffing wheel worked the best for me for removing stubborn gaskets. Just don't use it on the trans, just the pan. Also make sure the gasket surface of the pan is straight.

Gasket scraper/razor blade to scrape the old gasket; brake cleaner/paint thinner to get the pan clean; and then, rubbing alcohol to get the mounting surface squeeky clean.

We used a rubbing alcohol for the final cleaning to get oil/grease residue where the gasket sits because we used a silicon gasket instead of a gasket. This procedure was done on my '97 LC by the way.
