Best place to buy complete 3rd's???
Hey guys i am lookingto regear my 94 pickup with 4.88;s and dual ARB's. s far i have called and have 2 quotes, one from Randy's R&P and the other form Reider Racing.
Randy's quoted me $1300 for the front $1557.29 for the rear and $193.45 for the compressor.
Reider quoted me $1850 for the rear and the front i would have to ge tinstalled locally since the dont have a core to install it in, but the prices for the front are $179.95 for the gears $169.95 for all the bearings shims and seals $607.96 for the ARB and $190.95 for the compressor.
***EDIT just got off the phone with West Coast Differential: $1275 for the front $1350 for the rear $198 for the compressor, +$100 core for the fornt and $200 core for the rear after core charges are credited back it comes out to right around $2823 before tax and shipping. i think i will go with them unless someone give me some better info or some bad info about them. EDIT***
If anyone has a better place(cheaper) that does good work let me know. i definatley want to go ARB since it is still my DD and i want to lock the front when i regear. it wil be a few weeks before i can do any of this but i wanted to get a idea on what it would cost.
i think Randy's has the best price so far BUT i heard that they use 4 cyl pinion in place of the v-6 pinion's??? i dont want to break anything because of the lack of integrity if that is true.

What brand of gears were you quoted?
Try ORS in Colorado and Drivetrain Direct.
I paid, after core, $1150 for a Precision geared, Timken bearinged ARB'd V-6 third from Drivetrain Direct.

I bought my rear R & P from Randy's, and they tried to sell me a 4 cyl set to save money, but I insisted on getting the V6 gears, about a $30 difference. So, I'm sure you could insist on the V6 set and get it.
I was quoted $175 locally to install the gears if I brought the 3rd in, but I decided I'm going to give it a try myself, as I have access to a press at work (and a spare 3rd), and the experience of a couple prior tool and die makers. Just ordered a micrometer and magnetic dial indicator for ~$40...
