Ok so they used to, then I replaced them. Now my only question is what is the best way to get the alternator belt tight. Its a damn tight squeeze in there and hard to get leverage. I got it pretty tight now but it'll squeal a bit starting out with the lights on. Any suqqestions??

 

I cut a 1x6 wood board into a wedge and wedged it between the block and alternator to make tension while I tightened the mount bolt.

Mine's a 4 cyl so I had a lot more room to work with.

Maybe you could get creative with bungee cords to get the tension you need.
