Corolla, NC is one of the few places left that you can drive on the beach on the east coast. It's technically a state road that accesses the 200 or so houses that are up on the beach past the end of the paved road. My family has a house right at the end of Route 12 where the beach road access is. It's not completely empty but its still really fun to drive on and provided you don't do anything too crazy, the beach patrol cops leave you alone

These are both from Oregon, my old 85 before paint and my current 4runner.

dang! that really sucks about that 4th gen.

Also i think that's about the cleanest coastline i've seen in texas! Which beach was that? I've only been to the crappy public ones on mustang island and Padre though. Oh and Crystal Beach outside of Galveston. that was pretty nice.

LOL! Actually, it's the Kleberg county area of North Padre Island (between the Corpus area and the Padre Island National Seashore). It's usually COVERED in trash and debris (not from Texas or US, but from Mexico and anything dumped offshore; the currents here are just right so anything floating ends up on our beaches), but since Ida made the tides super high, all the junk was pushed up into the dunes. You're right, it was nice and clean!! I should have gotten a shot of the crap I had to drive over to get into the blowouts though; it was a good 1.5" deep of mixed garbage.

On a longboard just goofing around, it's tons of fun!
I watched a show recently about people in that area who surf off the wakes of the huge tankers passing through there.
