Battery Light Question

Sometimes while driving at night the battery light will come on and my headlights will get real bright for maybe 5 to 10 seconds and then everything will go back to normal. I know it's not my high beams since I've put them on while it's happening. I've got a brand new battery under the hood and haven't had any other problems. Anyone know what this could be?

Sounds like a voltage regulator problem to me.

either the alternator or voltage regulator...best to have it checked before something completely fails-wouldn't hurt to check the battery too.

Even new batteries can have weird issues and that's the easiest to rule out. Most major auto part chains will hook up to their machine at no charge-but likely so would the place you bought the battery from.
