Basic 3.4L question--recommended oil filter?

Hello all,

I just was getting ready to change my oil for the first time in the 3.4L 4runner and bought a wix filter for it. I was amazed at how tiny this thing is. Much smaller than even the filter I had been using on my 22re. I dont have the P/N here in front of me, but I thought I'd get some advice on filters from you all. I have seen some of the filter wars on the list about toyota vs. not, but I'm just interested in people's recommendations.

Thanks

Menko

I used to use regular Fram, but lately I've been using Napa Gold and it seems to be keeping my oil cleaner. I run M1 synthetic and change every 6k with a filter change at 3k and no problems yet.

I have been using the #85348 Carquest Premium filter...it's made by WIX....and I run Valvoline 5/30 Maxlife oil and am changing it every 3k.
It's a fairly easy job...turn wheel all the way to the left and access filter behind the driver front wheel. BUT......Make sure you stuff a good size rag under the filter.......it's a horrible design cuz you dump almost all the oil out of the filter trying to take it off!

Hehe, been there done that. Our Passat makes a gawd awful mess with the filter--I just take a plastic bag and put it around the filter, put the handles up and attached a wire or something to it if needed to hang it. Catches most/all of the oil and not so messy.

So would you guys say 5/30 oil? I'll probably just use dino oil in this guy.

Thanks

MJ

Just a fyi, picked up 4 oil filters at the dealer for $3.99 each. Figured that's not such a bad price.

OEM, Mobil 1, Amsoil, Purolator PureOne, Napa Gold and Wix are all good filters. If you buy OEM filters, I suggest looking in the Vendor Advertising section and look for some of strap22's postings. I think Phil has a special going on on filters now, might wanna check that out. BTW, welcome to the group and enjoy the stay. Use the search function too, it can be a great help.
