What does it smell like? If it smells like rotten eggs then it's probably your catalytic converter acting up.

they always suck in the exhaust gas, but if it does smell funny as humanoid said, its your catylitic converter

I asked my dealer about the smell awhile back. Said it was normal and dont worry about it. (I was getting other work done at the time. TIming belt and 100K mile service.)

Wet ?

When my cargo space carpet gets even slightly damp from rain with the rear window down it stinks like hell ! Not rotten eggs - cat converter smell ...more like a douche bag or something !
BAD

Throw my ex-mother-in-law out of your rig. That should solve the problem....

while moving, the reason why this is happening is that your rear window is the only open window and that allows the flow of the air to be redirected back into your cabin.

simple solution? open any one of your windows a crack. this will stop it from re-entering the cabin, as now there is air moving from the front to back and out the rear window

You could also check the function of your catalytic converter with an infrared pyrometer (thermometer). If I recall correctly, the exhaust should be a certain number of degrees hotter after the cat, indicating that it is doing its job. I dunno, maybe I'm just pulling stuff out of my arse...technicians?!

I was told it was not my cat. I asked a dealer about it. And having other windows opened helps some but not fully.

Has it ever been replaced? If not, then there's probably not much left of it. 10 years and east coast winters will do their damage.

$56 shipped off of eBay for a nice free-flow cat and have a local shop weld it in there:

You'll want the 2.25" pipe size for the '96.

Is the O2 sensor original as well?

Yeah.. it wouldn't hurt. Have you found URD USA yet?

http://www.urdusa.com/product_info.p...s_id=430006000

This is "Gadget" and outside of having great prices on OEM O2 sensors, he'll be happy to sell you Go Fast stuff too.

And... while we're talking about "have you ever done...", ya' might wanna: Clean the MAF, Clean the throttle body; Get new plugs (wires too wouldn't hurt); Replace the fuel filter; Replace the air filter.

How many miles are on the rig? Do you play in the dirt or just on the pavement?

Maybe you just have a funky smelling vehicle....it's posessed by an odor known only as "the beast"! It will ruin the lives of everyone who crosses paths with it.
