backup lights
any of you guys out there using auxillary back up lights? What are you guys using and where did you mount them? Pics please if possible.
Also, did you wire it so that they automatically turn on when you engage reverse? Or do they have an independent switch?

I bought mine at schuck's for like 20bucks a pair I think. I dont think you need to spend a fortune for a backup light. Mine hangs low and sometimes get banged up, also get submerged in water when I go wheeling so I just bought it for the functionality, not looks. Pic is in my webshots page I think
BTW I have tapped into backup light for power source and put a fuse relay to protect.

Do a search...there are tons of people on here that have em. I believe there is a write-up in the tech section on it too...maybe...I cant really remember.

$14 per pair fog lights from walmart, hooked up so they come on when in reverse and also turn on and off with a flip of a switch.
Try searching, there was a pretty good thread a while ago about the wiring and everything.

I am a total moron on the computer - just surf to kill time at work so I can't post pix. Can if you give me an e-mail but my photos are too big or something. Our span blocker is pretty tight so I can't sort out webshots or something...... but I got a $13 black rubber housing farm light from a local auto parts store for my back up lights and alley lights (face to the side). The light is water proof and should last a life time - the things ment for tractors so you know it's tuff! I mounted it with a 8mm bolt to a hole that was already in the rear of the frame on the drivers side. Not sure it that is on your model or not. Had some holes with nuts on the back on the side of the frame as well - just had to reem out the undercoating a bit to clean the threads. No relay or nothing and grounded it to the mounting bolt - super simple. I know there are more punched out options but much like my computer skills I like to apply the KISS theory.

Here are mine:
This is what I use for the switch:
I went with that and it's in a discreet location mounted sideways next to my cupholder on my side. Hidden and protected so that I (or passenger) do not accidentally flip it on and blind whoever is behind me.

one word. walmart. less than 20 bucks for a pair of square "baja" i believe halogens. bright enough to where at pitch black i can see out of my rear window (15%tint) just fine. i didnt tap in or anything, just ran wires to a toggle switch on the dash. instructions tell you everything. theyre independent switch, which is nice, b/c when people follow too close at night, i let them know i dont like it. another very nice thing, the bolts from walmart that come in the lights, fit perfectly in the stock holes on ur bumper...20 minutes tops to install.

Silly question?
Can I have my cake and eat it too?
Meaning, can I have backup lights that come on with reverse lights, yet can also be turning on with a switch in the cabin when not in reverse.
Make sense?

I'm running Hella 500 fogs for backups, but before that I had a cheapo set of Pilot lights I got at Autozone for $30 or something like that - they worked fine too. For backup lights, you don't need anything fancy or expensive.
I've got mine mounted to my safari rack so they stay safe. I can't really think of anywhere else I could mount them where they wouldn't get bashed.

to wire it, in the way you want (backup or switch), you splice positive wire into 2 and have one going to the switch drawn from battery and one going to backup light(w/relay). Right? anyone correct me if i'm wrong
I really dont think the extra effort(running power from battery) would be worth the trouble but then again, it's your rig

I just caught a previous post you had awhile ago. I aim to mirror your setup.
As a hunter, I often am caught in the woods/field/etc after dark with minimal light.
