Backspacing question

I found a set of used 15X10 Mickey Thompson classic rims for sale that have 3.25" backspacing. Would this small of a backspacing not be considered "good" for this size rim? I've got a 98 Limited that I want to put bigger tires on without having to replace the stock A-arms and was wondering if this would do the trick.

that seems like there's going to be a bunch of wheel sticking out. i have 15x8 on 3.75 (or maybe 3.875) backspacing and they just barely stick out. so your wheels will stick out another 2.5" inches, plus when you turn, the wheels will swing and probably hit the body. plus since the center of the wheel is much farther out than where it bolts to the wheels (1.75"), it'll be putting quite a bit of torque on the wheel bearing (in the lateral direction) and you can get premature bearing failure. i know for sure that 3.75" back spacing and most likely 4" back spacing will still clear the a-arms. so i'd look for that size wheel, and you probably don't need to go to a 10" wheel, that's real wide. 8 should be sufficient.

if you have a limited I would think it's got the 16" wheels and the bigger disc brakes up front so the 15" wheels won't fit it.

You're right! I completely forgot about the 15" wheels not fitting on the ABS brakes that came with the 16" wheels. I was aiming for some wider tires, but I guess I'll just go with a set of 285/75/16 BFG MTs and hope they don't contact the stock A arms too much.

on your stock wheels? if it's any consolation I have 4.25" BS on my ProComp wheels and I run 285/75/16 bfg mt's and I have about 1-1.5" clearance betweent the upper control arm and the tire.
