Back Seats Mod

ok, when i first bought this car the carpet smelled like mildow. I RIPPED IT ALL OUT. The only thing I kept was the rear carpet rug that sits in the trunk area. I normally refer to that as the bed area. Now my issue is that when i did take out the carpet i took off the backing of the rear seats. its pretty weird looking now. I have been wanting to put diamond platting in this area and bolt it to the back of the seat. However I feel this would look weird cause I dont have diamond plate anywhere else on my rig. any ideas???

Maybe just some sheetmetal painted the same color as your interior?

yeah i thought about sheet metal as well. i also need a way of cutting the metal... all i have is a 26 gallon air compressor, a cutting tool, impact gun, and a dremel... i am sure i can cut with those items though.

Id just use a jig-saw with metal blade for that. Id also just use sheet metal painted black.

this is what it looks like now... my plan is to cut sheet metal to shape and size of the seat. Then figure out a way to bold it on there. I will line the edges of the metal with door frame trim... hope to get the metal tomorrow.

Seeing how it had carpet backs orginally, you could probably find a replacement carpet backs in a wrecked rig and it would not cost you very much. would be easier but hey, if you got sheet metal skills you could probably make it look nice. Good luck on your project

Make sure you stock up on the band aids bro! The sheet metal does sound kinda cool, i have a couple boxers and i don't think they'd appreciate me doing something like that. Post pix when your done i'd like to see it.

That would be very easy to make. Make a cardboard template, trace onto sheetmetal, and cut. I would just use self tapping screws or rivets to hold it down.

Can you get white plastic cutting boards big enough (HDPE)? Look in the yellow pages and search under "plastic" and make a few phone calls to see what you can get. If they have any left over scraps from larger sheets it should be cheap and never rust.

Yeah I got a pit bull and he gets his paws stuck in the seat all the time.... I gotta do something. Plus, I want to use metal so I can put anchors into the back of the seats. I have a little girl and need a way to anchor her car seats in.

I'm about to fix my seat backs. I'm going to use masonite and paint it with that rusto rattle can bed liner..

Sounds like it will work, but not super durable.

I must be one of the few that really beats the piss out of their interior

My carpet was toast as well. The carpet on the back of the seats is sewn onto the rear cargo carpet, so I cut the stitching out so I could still have the back of the seats. Just another idea instead of sheet metal.

Yeah... Hind sight, wish I would have kept the backing on there. Heading to salvage yard Saturday for lots of parts... Other than that. Found sheet metal in a junk pile at my dads farm... I'm going to clean I up and cut it to size Thursday night for sure.
