Does anybody know how to tell if your rear axle has shifted after installing a lift? Is there a way to measure? Thanks...

 

what do you mean shift?

 

I've read that after a lift, the rear axle tends to shift sideways to the passenger side slightly.

 

No tends to it. Geometry doesn't lie. If you lift it and do not relocate the panhard bar you will be shifted.

 

So, is it bad to drive it like this while it's shifted? Again, how would you measure this to find out if it indeed shifted?

 

What year 4Runner is it and how much did you lift it, what lift?

 

the more the lift, the more it shifts. its hard to measure unless youve got specs before the lift. id be willing to bet its minimal though, unless youve got something rediculous like a 10" lift.

ive got about 2.75" ~3" lift in the back, and no issues. you can get a trac bar drop bracket if youre really worried about it...

 

Thanks for all the replies...it's a 2000 Limited 4Runner 4X4 3.4L and yesterday I installed the heavy duty OME kit from Rocky Road without any spacers or anything like that. The reason I ask is because to get the driver's rear spring in, I had to disconnect the panhard bar and when I tried reconnecting it after the spring install, the bar was probably 1/2-3/4" short of the hole. It took my fire station's come-along to shift the axle over to line up the holes. I ordered the panhard drop bracket from Toytech cause I figured that the shift can't be good. Thanks again and some pics will follow...
