Im going to be installing a surco rack with (4) Hella 500's on top within the next couple weeks and I have a couple questions concerning the wiring. I've done allot of searching and reading up on the tech reviews but for me, im not electricly inclined. Corey did a write-up on wiring auxiliary lights, which i found to be very helpful, but im curious about one or two things...

I took the GIF posted on his write-up and added some more text, for my own good, to help me remember which wires went where. Heres what it looks like...



If any of that is wrong, please correct me - cause this is mainly what i'll go by when wiring. Anyways, my main question is about the Middle Wire on the switch in the cab...Yes, its the hot wire, but where exactly does it connect to? Corey explained, "Middle Prong = hot wire. Wire it to your fuse box to come on with key or wire it up hot so it will come on anytime you want." So what im asking is, I want it to come on without the key, meaning i wire it up "hot", how do i do this...what do i wire it to in order to make it "hot"?

If you have anything to add to this please do it, anyways, thanks in advance for your help.

Wire it straight to the battery or auxillary fuse block that is powered or "hot" by the battery.

 

Don't wire it straight to the battery. Use an aux fuse block that's powered by a sensibly large diameter wire (12 or even 10 ga) that has a very short lead to the battery. Or find a connection on the OEM fuse block that is hot all the time.

Yeah I was just assuming he may not have an aux fuse block so another way to get around it is to run an inline fuse and to the battery. I don't like the idea of jamming wires into the OEM fuse block anymore after what I saw at work a few months ago. A guy fried his fuse block when one wire blew a fuse but was still running juice to it then melted his fuse block.

 

Alright thanks guys, im pretty sure i know what your saying. So from the middle prong on the cab switch, i'll run a thick (10 gauge) wire with an inline fuse (what size fuse?) directly to the + battery terminal? And then wire up the rest like shown in the diagram and i'll be good?
