Auto trans dipstick - can someone sanity check me?

I feel super dumb for this one.

So my '99 3.4l 4WD auto had a mangled dipstick when I got it, I noticed it takes some encouragement to get it in so I figure the PO bent it up by forcing it. I got a new one: www.ebay.com/itm/301700419090

Listing says it's a match for my specific truck.

I installed and naturally checked my level, like always, but noticed it was off. So I compared it to my old dipstick and this is what I found:

The markings are different! Now I'm trying to determine if I was sent the wrong part, or if the old dipstick was the wrong part. I've been noticing that the tranny isn't super crisp so I want to be damn sure the fluid level is right. Then, a total flush.

Are the two Toyota Part numbers on the Dip Sticks the same??

Have you checked using your VIN what the correct number should be??

I had checked them for part numbers, but there's nothing printed on them. Hence my uncertainty. I'm gearing up for a full flush and want to make sure it's correct.

The dipstick in my 2000, 3.4, 4wd matches the top picture in this thread.

btw in this case a picture would be better than a 2 minute video

Trying to find a new one for my 2000 SR5 3.4 as well. Initial search revealed two part #'s, 35103-35350, and 35103-34060. Ordered and received the second number, and it was the wrong one, cold and hot level notches were too close to the end of the stick. I have the other one inbound and hoping that will be the one.

I just checked my 00 and 02 models. Dipstick tube is longer in the 02 by about an inch which is about how much further down the stick the notches are. Looking at the link above, my 00 is the top one and my 02 is the bottom one.

My theory: They lengthened the tube to allow for easier access at some point between 00 and 02. They already had someone building their dip sticks to length so they just had that company lower the notches to account for the additional length of the tube instead of redesigning the entire stick.

Hope that helps.

This whole thing made me think of something I noticed when I bought the 2002 Runner I have now. When I buy a truck, I bring it straight home and change all of the fluids, making note of condition the oil is in and how much came out down to the ounce. I had a 2001 Runner a few years ago. To drain and refill the transmission I would need to put in nearly a gallon of fluid to make it set perfectly on the stick. When I got this one home, I let the oil out of the tranny and measured just about the same as my old one. Refilled it with the exact same amount that came out and also matched my notes from my 01. Checked the oil and it is high on the stick. Drove it a while and it was high on the stick. This thread lead me to go and put my vac pump down the tube and draw out some oil until I had it right. I just took out a full quart of transmission fluid and still a shade over the cool mark.

Since I have folks on this thread who care enough to know their dipstick looks odd, how much oil do your rides hold? Don't say look it up because the manual is wrong on the refill capacity. I can't remember but it's like two quarts and that won't touch the stick mine.

Received the other dipstick, part number 35103-35350, and it is the correct one for my 2000.
