Auto dimming mirror/compass

I was thinking of adding a auto dimming mirror with compass to my 2000 4runner. I know it mounts on the window instead of the headliner. My question is, is there any way to plug up the hole in that plastic piece that the old mirror was in. There has to be some way for it to look better. Also, I was thinking of getting the ones with homelink built in(no more garage controllers on visor!!!!). Anyone know where I can get these homelink/compass/temp/dimming mirrors? Also How do I hid the wires going up to the headliner? Anyone think that a black mirror would look bad since the old mirror was grey? Thanks

hey dibble, i did it on my 3rd gen runner. i just took the roof mounted mirror off and replaced the trim piece over the hole. there was still a little gap left where the mirror shaft went into the base, but from the seated position, you cant see it. in fact, you have to put your head on the dash sideways and look up and back to even kinda see where it went. with the new mirror installed, you can't even see it then. hope this helps....and by the way, these things are sooo nice.

you'd need to be looking for that gap in order to see it. no one will notice, and its actually the best place for the power wire to run... it goes straight up to the sunroof wiring.. if you have a sunroof!

nice write up lee, our stock mirror mounting pods are a little different but the install of the new mirror is identicle(sp). i just don't have the patience to do a write up....okay, i'm too lazy...

anyway, i'd do it dibb, it's worth every penny and the time it takes to do it. just follow the write up, it'll take you where you want to be.
