auto climate control (4th gen)
Ok folks, I know everyone has their opinion about the auto climate control on the 4th gen 4Runner... but... does anyone know if there is a programing trick to take control back? I can't stand that the air fresh/rec. has a mind of it's own!! Does anyone have any answers?

I'm not using the "auto" function. The system still switches from fresh to rec. as it sees fit. I'm assuming it uses outside temp, inside temp, and requested temp settings to control this. If I shut the truck off with it set to fresh it will probably switch to Rec. every time when restarted. I would like it to just stay in the fresh air (vent) mode.

If you get an answer to this question, let us all know. Even in the non-auto mode (hardly qualifies as manual), it still makes decisions for you (isn't that nice!). I've about given up and just let it have its way with me and the dealer is no help at all since it was actually designed this way. Same with skid control, traction control, abs, etc.. All the nannies are in place without any ability to send them away for a brief period of time. I guess Gen 5 will have the ability to proram in a destination, take a nap and then the truck will awaken you upon arrival at the destination. By then, all offroading will be virtual only. The sad part is that when these electronic geehaws break, it costs as much as an old 22R engine to replace.

As far as I know, here’s how it works. The climate control takes a look at the temperature you’ve selected with the up/down buttons, and compares that to the actual inside temperature. If the difference is greater than some preset amount, it assumes you want maximum cooling, and goes into re-circulate.
However, it does this even if you don’t have the A/C on. It also does it even if you are in manual mode. I can see it happening if A/C is on, or in auto mode, but otherwise not. What’s the point of manual mode if the system overrides it? How can you get maximum cooling if the A/C is not on?
After I park in the sun for a while, the first thing I want to do when I start it up is to flush out the hot, stale stagnant air. It’s hard to do this in re-circulate mode. Once the hot air is flushed out, then I turn on the A/C and re-circulate.
