ATTN: San Diego Area

Hey all got a quick question

Just got back into town a bit ago and getting some work done on my 4Runner.

Ive got some decent quotes from some dealers in the San Diego area
(El Cajon Toyota is the best so far)..that is 370.00 for a ATF Flush, Coolant Drain, Spark Plugs, Diff Fluid, Tire Rotation and Balance and a huge inspection

Also got a quote for 169.00 on a timing belt replacement from Kearny Mesa Toyota

However I am wondering if anyone here has any reccomendations on San Diego area mechanics?

I have a hard time trusting stealerships

I think someone did a thread on this awhile ago
I have had no problems with Kearny Mesa Toyota. I have even had them add fluid I brought to thier shop.

I've had problems with Kearny Mesa Toyota.
I guess it's luck of the draw... I have had a lot of good service with Poway Toyota.

SDTrux in Miramar is pretty cool.
My only complaint is that they fixed some seals for an oil leak I had in my runner when it turned out that all the bolts holding the oil pan were finger loose, not finger tight, but finger loose... I would have hoped that they'd catch something like that.
Still, they're honest mechanics and good to deal with.

ditto on the truck shop in miramar. I am the one that started that thread a while back. Anyway my 4runner was just picked up a day ago. New head, new gaskets, knock sensor and wire, timing belt, hoses, ect... They were top notch, kept me informed when things were bad and good. Time frame was longer than they quoted so he took a chunk off the bill. Truck was ready for me to pick up and freshly washed. even the first service is on them...I am planning on having them do some major fabrication too...

Man that was a long time with out my 4runner. (two weeks at the most) It sure makes me enjoy and apreciate it more. Now that it is running rite, I gotta go and hit the trails...(I'm going through withdrawls, tried to play with my sons tonka trucks but that aint cutt 'n it)

I just realized my thread wasn't too encouraging...
Here's a better way to explain SDTrux. I thought my clutch might be going out in my 1st gen a while ago. I called Poway and they quoted me around $1300. I called Kearny Mesa and they said roughly $1100. I called SDTrux and they said, "Oh yeah, that's about $560."

I took my truck in and they looked at it for a while, gave me a list of stuff it needed and told me that if I didn't want to do it, it would be no charge to have given me the problems and estimate.
They're honest and VERY competitive in pricing.

I also recommend SDTRUX. Very decent and much cheaper. If you absolutely have to go to a stealer, El Cajon is decent and so is their repair shop in Santee. Never go to Toyota of San Diego in Mission Gorge. They are absolutely the most dishonest and incompetent bunch of assess I've ever dealt with.

Go to Protrux. You will not find work done better, and prices are less than everybody else.

Had the work done yesterday

I had a slight issue w/ SDTrux. On the phone..they assured me they had a ATF flush machine...when I arrived they informed me they could only preform a drain and fill.

Other than that ..satisfied with the work.

Anyone here knows a shop they would recommend to work on lifting my '97 4Runner about 2.5" - 3.0" using OME parts or equivalent in San Diego area? I am new to all these lifting stuff and don't know much about it, so I have to rely on someone who knows their craft and honest enough to let me know what is needed to accomplish the job.

I basically need to raise my truck, so I can haul extra dive gear (1100 lbs.) for a long drive to Loreto and still keep the stock size tires and wheels.

Someone recommended Four Wheel parts in El Cajon. I also read a thread about a bad experience with ORW. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

great guys, great service

I was just there on Thursday, lots of work done, completely happy with them and their work. Much, much better than any dealer work I have ever had done. My 4Runner feels better than new now.

Protrux in San Marcos is the only place that will get my business. Period.

www.protrux.net

They have done everything from:

Changing my clutch to complete custom fabricated suspension on my 4runner.

They also swapped the motor on my ce3lica for a very reasonable price.

They've been working on Yotas since before I was born, and it shows. I couldn't be happier with them.
