average price is somewhere around $650 for locker, $200 for compressor and $300 to install.

These are really expensive! I might put one in the front but I think ill go with a E-locker retrofit in the rear.

They are also really worth every penny. If one is not using stock gears it all becomes a wash.

did either of you have a break-in period for the locker? the shop told me that i should run the diff for 500 miles under a light load and then change the oil. he said no wheeling until after 500 miles.

did either of yall do this?

I think they were talking about the break-in of the gears not the locker. Here is a break-in proceedure for the gears http://www.precisiongear.com/pgtech_breakin.htm

I took it a step or two further with mine, I changed the gear oil at 100 miles, 200 miles, and 500 miles, going to synthetic gear oil (Mobil 1) at 500 miles.

Locker should not need break in. I suppose that I did that with mine, mostly because I had gears being broken in with them. I never engaged the locker under load until the gears had hit the 500 mile mark.

For all who say these are too expensive, you have never side hilled with a Detroit either with or without snow.

The ARB needs good routing of the lines, upside down solenoids at the compressor and competent.

The E-locker needs to have the vent monitored. People in crappy climates, as in snow and mud, have had the motor die.
