ARB Front Bumper Install

I ordered an ARB front bumper for my '95 4Runner on Tuesday. The shop I ordered from wanted $200 to put it on. That to me seemed kinda high so I plan to do the job myself. I am wondering if I can expect any surprises when I install it or is this a straight forward job.

You should be ok. Lots of people have installed their own bumpers. Idealy you want yourself and 2 helpers. 2 hold it while one lines the bolts up and secures them. Its doable with 2 guys if one is strong enough to hold it in place by himself.

It could be done with one guy if he was really creative with floor jacks and Hi lift jacks. I put my tube bumper on by myself with lawn chairs, wood blocks and 2 jacks. I don't reccomend it but its possible.

If all I need to worry about it the weight of it that's no big deal. I can hold it in place w/ the pulley I use for skinning deer in my garage.

Check out my ARB folder here.
http://pnw4runners.net/tech/arb_install_info/

I have scans in there of the install sheets.
There is a hidden part you will need to take off.
It's covered by a flap, and if you don't take it off, you won't be able to get the bumper over the front frame channel.

I know this as last year Jim & I tried to put mine on, and it would not go.
A guy emailed me that the hidden metal thing must be taken off.

I found that out after I had already got in touch with the shop where I bought it, and they ended up putting it on for me.

ARB doesn't have the best install info, and I told them they need to update it so folk's are aware of that hidden piece that must come off.

Thanks for the tip that is the kind of stuff I needed to know.

I am worried now that my PIAA 80's wont fit once I get a winch. How big are the light you have? The 80's are like 8" across & 5 1/2" deep.

Hey, that is a pretty impressive signature you got there. Lots of cool toys. I am sure that the ARB will only make it that much better. Goodluck putting it on and take lots of pictures. Let us know how you make out! :fireman:

ATC, my Hella 500s are 6.5" diameter I think.
I could go a tad bigger, but not much.

Yours may or may not fit.

Man that will suck if I can't put my implants back on.

Well some good news is that I just got the call from my mechanic to come pick it up. He has the engine back in & its running good.

Fitting lamps

I think they weigh about 75 lb or so, maybe a tad more.

ATC, I just looked at my bumper, and it looks like there is a little over one inch of room on each side of the lights.
You might get away with an 8" "or more" wide lamp.

I just snagged this pic, and it will show you what to expect with a bigger lamp than the Hella 500s I run on my ARB.

i didnt put mine on myself... but the guy that did it did it by himself and said that the instructions sucked.

he said he lifted it up and slid it onto the mounts, then bolted it in. i guess that's possible.

Well I must say that at the moment life is good. I just returned from a fund raiser held at the Maker's Mark distillery & I have my 4Runner back. All I need now is my new bumper.

Corey thanks for the pic giving me an idea of the room I will have. I love a challenge so maybe I can put that control box inside the truck someplace.

My mechanic told me today that for $40 bucks he would help me remove the old bumper & guard & install the ARB. I may have to wait an extra day & take him up on that one.

And regarding my implant comment. A friend I play soccer w/ saw me a mile or so down the road coming towards him. He told me later that he knew right way that it was me because of the PIAA 80's on the front which he refers to as implants. Ever since then my friends all call them that.

Man I love that bumper! Show us the results when it's all done, and good luck with the install.
