Anyone installed a brake controller in a 3rd gen 4runner?

Hi, to anyone who has installed a brake controller on a 3rd gen 4runner, I have a few questions...

Firstly I will be installing a Teckonsha Primus brake controller. It's basically the same as the Prodigy but cheaper (has identical inertial sensor). It only supports 3 axles instead of 4, and lacks the 'power boost' function which is only for heavy loads. Good for what I need it for (2500lb single axle travel trailer).

Now my quesitons...

1) Where did you mount the controller so that its out of the way but display is visible?

2) Did you tap into the green/white wire from the 4-pin connector coming off the brake pedal for the normally-cold, 12V-brake-applied signal into the brake controller?

3) For power, the installation instructions say to connect to the battery through an automatically resetting circuit breaker. Correct me if I'm wrong but won't this mean the brake controller will always be powered, and draining the battery to some degree even when the vehicle is off? Wouldn't it make more sense to power it through an ignition-enabled circuit like the cigarette lighter? Would that circuit handle the extra current without blowing the fuse?

4) The ground connection...to the -ve terminal of the battery, or to a frame bolt? Is one better than the other?

5) How did you run the one wire from the controller to the 7-pin plug at the rear of the vehicle? Through those square plastic cable runs at the door entrance?

Thanks for your help!

Ken.

I would think you would want it to always be hot, so even if you had some sort of ignition failure, you could still stop the truck/trailer combo.

Yes you can wire it hot all the time or you can just put it on the ignition (when you turn the key on).

You might want to do a search at Expedition Portal. I know there are several brake controller threads there and there might be some 3rd Gen 4Runner examples.
