Anyone done a rear-disc conversion?

The brake proportioning on this thing is horrible.
I hate how "grabby" the brakes are at low speeds. I can't help but think it's because the front discs are doing almost all of the work.

I'd like to put discs on the rear and run a different proportioning valve.

Has anyone done this and if so what did you use and approximately how much did it cost?

Thanks!
Alan

i saw a article last month that used a full floating hub and axle design, not sure who made it, but it used fj-60 rotors I think, ill look around for it and i know that it cost around 1000 bucks to do it before installation....ill keep an eye out!

They sell a rear free floater/disk brake conversion kit for like $699. However it doesn't include everything. You will need some other parts as well. I am not sure whether it fits all Yoters either. I know that it will fit mine though!

Big Top - not sure if you're still thinking about this but I was looking for SS brake lines today and found this. $499 for the conversion kit.

I have done disk brake swaps on two of mine. I used '81 Monte Carlos with Chevy Rotors. Turned out really nice. The '85 runner came out really nice with the FZJ80 Master Cylinder. I made my own brackets. Total cost was around $200 for the parts.
I will update my site soon. I had it on there, but am in the process of changing it.
Here is a photo before installing to the 4Runner.

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm still kicking this around but as always money is an issue.

I'm starting a new job on the 25th and taking a HUGE paycut so i can get into a new industry. (Car salesman to Banking)

Once i get situated and making some real money I'll tackle the rear disc conversion...

First and foremost, though, I have to get this blower installed on my Cobra.

Thanks again,
Alan
