A couple weeks ago my car was parked in a parking lot and it got hit in the right front fender well, it was a light hit, but my car didn't have a scratch in it. I took it to the body shop that everybody recomended and parked it next to brand new Camry and a BMW. Picked it up today and they did a great job fixing it but horrible job blending the paint. They painted the door, rocker panel, and the fender. They did no blending onto the hood or the back door and I can see the difference in color. They didn't even paint the mirror attached to the door or the slim piece of sheet metal in between the door and the windshield. Somebody correct me if I am too picky, but I think these problems should be fixed. Is white a hard color to match?

 

wow, that's a crappy paint match... i wasn't expecting to be able to see it in a photo, but it's very obvious. i don't think it'd be inappropriate for you to demand it be fixed.

Yea if they have trouble fixing it they can paint the whole car.

Did you pay for blending? It's always hard to match paint on used cars, but damn...

 

on his insurance adjuster's estimate it says blending, his insurance payed for it, but if I knew it was going to look like this I would have fixed it myself and had somebody just paint the car

 

Matching white is hard in my personal experience, but those guys are supposed to be pros. It looks to me like they didn't try to blend at all....

I have the same problem with my wifes silver corolla - can't get the paint to match well and I can't blend it it in very well.

 

That would drive me nuts. Please take it back and demand a better job. Take a few photos like the one you posted and print them out, as it may be a sunny day when you go to the shop. The last thing you want is for them to claim that there is no color match issue.

My Montero had the same problem... First really white, then yellow. I made them repaint it until it looked perfect. I don't know if there was an insurance clame on yours, but progressive backed me thru it and it looks great now!

Your vehicle is 8 yrs old. The paint is not going to match like it would on a one year old vehicle.

How often do you wash and wax your vehicle? Is the factory paint still in good shape? There are a lot of different factors that will determine how well the paint matches. I can't really determine from the pictures.

The reason, I assume, that the mirror wasn't painted is because there was no damage to it and it had to be removed to paint the door. The "slim piece of sheetmetal" b/w the door and windshield is called the "A" pillar. If you will notice, that piece is connected to the roof and both qtr panels. To paint it would require removing the roof rack and painting almost the entire vehicle.

My advice to you is to take it to several other shops and get their opinions. From my limited perspective, It looks ok.

The paint on your truck is almost 8 years old. There is a chance of fading. Have them buff the old paint with a 1000 grit compound and polish mixture. It might brighten the old paint enough to match the new painted areas

 

I took it to the body shop and they are going to buff the whole side to get it all to match.

 

Try and see if they will buff the whole truck. That way it will all match. Going through the same thing right now. Some idiot put a dent in my rear passenger side and it was fixed. They only buffed the one side and it is going to drive me crazy. Most wont notice but owners always do...lol

 

Take it back, It doesn't matter if the paint is 10 days or 10 years old a professional will be able to blend it reasonably close. Any monkey can look up the paint code and spray it on, that's not blending. Any paint job or repair I've ever done requires more than stir and spray, you need to know how to change tints, metalics, base ect. Professionals know how take it back.
