any NGP antenna experts?

I run a 2' NGP Firestik antenna on my rig. I have the coax routed back though my cargo area. I was loaded up pretty good with gear over the weekend and the coax was partially cut, enough to affect my reception. I cut the coax, reattached the connector, and remounted the antenna - no luck. I checked out the Firestik website and they said that reception is best when the length of coax is a factor of 9'. It also was very clear about not cutting the coax. Well, I didn't have a choice.

I tried cutting the coax to 18' (a factor of 9'), and I made sure to connect the terminal properly. Still no luck. Any thoughts, or am I out of luck? I contacted a Firestik retailer, and they said that I couldn't buy just the NGP coax, I had to buy the whole NGP antenna kit. All I need is the coax.
