well i just thought of something that may be a problem....the 3.4 auto and 3.4 manual crankshafts are different, so i dont beleive a pilot bearing will fit. unless we all find a special bearing!

I looked high and low when I was shopping and I couldn't find one. Of the ones I did, they were too high miles or out of my price range. I ended up finding a 98 5speed elocked and I love it. Granted the 98 looks a lil different than the 99's and up but you can always put the hood on and change the bumpers! Just thought I'd put that out there if you are getting weary in your search.

from all the 3.4L engines I've seen the hole is there for a pilot bearing, it would be impractical for Toyota to make 2 different crankshafts production wise.....
The engine in my rig was an auto, just had to swap all the MT stuff to it.....

i agree that toyota isnt going to make two different crankshafts if they dont have to to save costs, but im not sure either way.
i have the sport 5spd and i wouldnt trade it for anything. its not e locked but i wasnt gonna buy just some plain jane 4runner for elocker. i never even saw a 3rd gen 5spd runner till i found mine at a small private dealer. needless to say it was in my driveway the next week.
btw, we arent just talkn about 5spd runners for those who posted sayin they have sport runners when its just a 5spd. not to be an ass, just sayn

Nice thread. I remember when I bought my 4runner back in 2001. It is a 2000 highlander (sport) edition with the 5 speed and 4 wheel drive. It's silver with the gray interior. I live in Texas, and it was for sale in Oakland, California. When I called the owner, he told me that it was already sold. 2 days later, he called and said that the sale didn't happened. He asked if I was still interested. I certainly was! I work for an airline, so I was able to fly to Oakland that evening. I remember when I first saw the 4runner at the airport. I knew immediately that I would buy it. The seller said that someone in Atlanta really wanted it. Too bad! I got there first. I contained my excitement, though, so he wouldn't play games with the price. I wrote a check for the deposit. A few days later, I flew out there again with a cashiers check to finish the sale. I also arranged to have the 4runner shipped. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. I still have it. Over the years, I added the TRD supercharger and the TRD exhaust.

if i had the supercharger i would probably get the urd kit myself. 6 bigger injectors seem better than 1 extra. part of the reason i dont want it is because ill end up trying to go fast and rip tires.

The supercharger is nice. My last car was a 93 corvette. When I first got the 4runner, I did miss the power of the vette. I did not miss the maintenance, though. That vette was a piece of junk!!! I am amazed how well toyota builds there vehicles. I'll never buy a chevy again.
