Another oil question
I am currently running castrol syntec 5W-50. Where I live the temps get down to 0 in winter and over 100 F in summer. 5W-50 seems to suit my needs fairly well. Is it just me, or does the thought of that much range of protection seem a little too good to be true?
Would I be wiser to switch to 20W-50 for the summer and 5W-30 for the winter? Or do you guys think the 5W-50 is all it's cracked up to be?

I would run 10w30 because you truck is just a bit high milage. It would be good for the summer and winter. Use a good oil filter. One with a anti-drian vavle.

I don't think the range is too good to be true. Perhaps it was not designed for people in the sunbelt, more specifically the high desert. But with Diurnal Temperature changes (night & day) in the desert averaging 30 to 40 degrees, its perfect. That is the beauty of synthetic, science can "make" it suit our needs.
If you want to switch to something else and stay synthetic, I just read AMSoil is offering 5W-40 for European cars. I like AMSOIL because you can run Backyard turbines on it! AMSOIL PASSES TEST!
