Ravin Mufflers??

Ok just went to 2 muffler shops, one told me they don't do muffler installs or whatever. So he told me to go to Midas, so I went and the only thing they had were Ravin mufflers. Anybody know anything about these? Also here sorta gave me a ballpark range of numbers:

Ravin Muffler: 80 bucks
Tail pipe: 30 bucks
Labor: 50 bucks
Misc. clamps: 10 bucks.

So he said it should be between 150-200 for everything.

Something odd that happened, he put in 96 4runner into his computer and nothing came up. Then he tried every year of the 3rd Gen and nothing came up at all! So he said he didn't know what custom modifications had to be made, pipe bending, extra pipes...whatever.

What do you guys think? If this doesn't work out, I might try to buy a muffler online and have it put on locally. Midas said they didn't do outside products but reccommended a place that would. Any good places online you guys could reccommend? And types? Gracias.

MIDAS SUCKS.

I will never go there again. Rob, when are you coming back to AZ with the Runner?

Remember I paid $35 to have my stock muffler removed and a glasspack welded in. You shouldnt pay much more than that.

I would get a Magnaflow from Summit and then call around for the install.

Christian -
Well I'll be back in AZ for Christmas, but I have noo clue when the runner will be back there. Cuz rememeber, that's a full 3 day drive. I guess I'll just have to look around more....Thanks for the tip on Midas though. The guy seemed pretty nice and honest.

Christian do you have AIM?

If you do, my name is Azdragon09

I agree, Midas is not the place to go. I called there back when I was looking into an axhaust, and they tried to tell me that "performance" pre-bent tailpipes they had for a Tacoma would fit the 4Runner...yeah right. Plus, the ravin is just a cheaply made (overpriced) Flowmaster knock off. SPend you money somewhere else.

Summit doesn't carry Magnaflows, btw...but try Jegs

Scroll down that page to cross-reference the part numbers on Coreys website with the one you need. SHould be offset inlet, center outlet, 2.25" , just decide which size of body you need, I think its either 11225 or 12255...

Hey Jayson I just checked that Jegs site. Should I be goin for the 14" exhaust? Would that be too short? Therefore making it really loud?

For you guys running the super turbo's, are those pretty quiet?

I'd get the 18" (12255) if you were worried about the noise, I just couldn't remember the exact part numbers listed on Corey's site. Its a tough call because whats too loud to you may not be too loud to me...

The muffler I have (Xcellerator, basically the same as the Magnaflow) is a 14" body and I don't think its too much. I can hear it in the cab at most speeds, but with the ISR/Deckplate mods, the exhaust noise is not noticeable once you go over 3000 rpms, all you hear is the intake. The guys I trail-ride with regularly say that its not too loud following me, they thinks its kewwell...

Very easy. They will cut the old out, weld the new in. If you get the right fit, they wont have to add any extensions...but that isnt a big deal if they do.

I would pay no more than $50 for the install.

Interesting, I couldn't find them online...I haven't got a paper atalog in a while...

Either way, Jegs or Summit are both reputable places to order from. The install should be a piece of cake. If you get a 14" or 18" body, they will have to add a short extension, these are usually almost free, since most guys will just grab a piece out of the scrap pile...Which P/N is Tom's?

Ok did a little more shopping today, pretty much called all the places around me. The average quote is between 30-50 dollars, all saying it'll depend on piping and clamps or whatever needed. So now I plan on going with the magnaflow 18" universal.

Question, where is a good place besides summit racing to order the magnaflow? And is this a good muffler?

Mine is the 18" body, p/n 11255.

I haven't heard the 40 series Flowmasters, but I bet they are louder than what I have. They may be similar to a 14" magnaflow, but that's just a wild guess.

40 Series = pretty loud
50 series = not quite as loud, less in cab resonance
60 series = made for 4 and 6 cyl engines. slightly louder than stock, minimal/almost no in-cab noise at hwy speeds

All have that distinct throaty rumble...

O.k., where did your post go about the Flowmasters...

From the Jegs page I posted earlier:

Offset Inlet, Center Outlet - 5'' x 8'' Oval, 18'' Long Case
642-12255 2.25'' In/Out Muffler $74.99

Not a bad price...

The p/n I listed, 11255, is for the 18" body, 4x9 oval.

The one Jayson listed is 12255, 18" body, 5x8 oval.

Shoot, now I don't remember which one I have..... Its definitely an 18" body, but I'm not sure about the oval size.
