Hi:

There is a pipe that routes exhaust air from the engine exhaust area back to the EGR valve. When the engine is fully warm up and running at around 2000 RPM (but the car is not moving), should this pipe be warm since it routes exahaust air back to the vacuum manifold (controlled by EGR)?
If the pipe near the EGR valve is cold (not warm at all), is this normal? Or does it mean exhaust air is never recirculated back to the vacumm manifold?

I was told by a friend who is a mechanic that the EGR valve should stay cool while the engine is running at idle just after starting. The EGR valve will open up after the engine warms up and get quite hot to the touch after you've driven it for a little while.
