oh well must be where people at home usually put the trd sticker...or where the dealership puts the sticker if they install the supercharger.

Actually I think there was for one year. Don't know if it was a dealer package or special factory package. All black with a supercharger, exhaust, TRD graphics everywhere. A dealer where I used to live had one, it was about $6k more than a limited. This was back in 99 I believe. Super nice looking.

not from the factory - never a TRD runner from japan. that was a "dealer package" only. the superchargers were ONLY available from the dealers and none ever had a "factory TRD package" - ever...

It might be a Hawaii thing. They are all Desert Dune color, has Anniversary Edition emblems where the Limited emblems are, 3 total. A rear wing spoiler that looks like it's from Surfs. Definately 3rd gen.

We don't have those type of stickers on the windshield but next time I see one I'll take pictures and we can probably tell what year it is.

I'm starting to think so. I hope I can find an owner to actually talk to.

Okay I got some pictures. So this model comes painted Desert Dune(I think)/Silver two-tone, has the emblems, rear wing spoiler and a bigger front bumper. It looks like a 96, 97, 98 because of the grill, tail lights, and where the 4Runner emblem is on the back. What you guys think?

not sure if they spec'd it out and sold it this way, but here goes:

seems to me that the only things different are the rear spoiler and the lower front bumper lip thing---both things that look aftermarket and not OEM to me. the fit and finish of that lower lip this is atrocious. look at that gap! also, that looks like a jaos rear spoiler---also something that can be found in any aftermarket parts store. thus, im having my doubts that there is an anniversary edition from japan.

...but who knows, i maybe wrong. wouldn't be the first time

Just a shot in the dark, but could a specific Toyota dealer have put on the aftermarket parts and sold a "anniversary edition" to celebrate the anniversary of the dealership itself? The "anniversary edition" badging isn't the typical Toyota style badging, as it looks like it's just a decal. I dunno.... I agree with Bob about that front bumper. It looks pretty "aftermarket".

maybe it was a dealer thing. the ones ive seen were all millenium silver though and had the newer style head/tails n grill. the sticker looks the same though. ive got to agree that looks like a 99+ bumper gone wrong on that thing

Definitely a Jaos wing or OEM Hilux wing. I believe the Jaos is a replica of OEM. This is one of my next mods. Off hijack mode...

you woudl think for an anniversay setup there would be more than a wing and a different front bumper piece. I was thiking some chrome here and there (door handles, rear view mirros, exhuast tip?) and some different wheels for sure. I cant tell if the interiour is leather or not by the pics but I would think the interior would have some badging too either on the seats or dash.... im guessing bust.

Judging from this Link (NOTE this link will take a while to load as its full of kewl Surfs from Japan) of 3rd Gen 4Runners (Hilux Surfs) in japan that front bumper thing looks like its an OEM option for 96-98 and I guess thats where the 99-02 US Versions got the new bumpers from just that they are one piece.

So I guess these Anniversary Edition 4Runners we got here in Hawaii got a couple of Japan Surf body parts.

it's a us-spec limited. then they don't put the "limited" badges on (all emblems are port installed). they probably got the OEM wing and front lip from either toyota or another source like JAOS.

my guess is that they're not just one dealer, but maybe a port-optioned runner.

nothing but a limited w/ two JDM pieces of plastic and some cheesy stickers for emblems.

also, 99 would be the anniversary of both the surf and the runner, so for these to be an anniversary and 96-98, then for some reason, they're 12th, 13th, or 14th year anniversary editions. toyota wouldn't do that, but some cheesy dealers or importer would for a sales gimmick...
