andy mod on a '98 4runner?

sifting through all the info on the andy mod to make an easy on/off switch for disabling my ABS and i've run into a snag. i have a '98 SR5 4WD 4runner that does not have the traction control and VSC or whatever and i'm unsure which wire to splice into to run to my switch to turn off my ABS, or if there is such a thing? right now i have my ABS disabled by taking the fuse out, but i'd love to have a switch to turn it on/off from the cockpit if i so desire. i've read about tapping into the neg wire to the fuse to turn it on/off but i've also read about people saying not to tap into fuse wiring that goes into the cabin of the truck because of current that may cause a fire but to use a relay instead. perhaps i need to post this in the electrical section since i know very little about electronics and the use of relays etc but i thought maybe some one would know more about the ABS system on a '98 here. i've looked at the master cylinder on my 4runner and there is only one connector that comes out of the resevoir which i would assume is for the low fluid warning light. any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
patrick

Just out of curiosity, why would one want ABS off?

because when your out wheeling and coming down a steep incline, it's usually best to have complete control over your brakes...not a computerized chip. ABS can be a scary thing while off-road.

pattycakes poses a good question and concern. It's something i'd like to do myself.

I'd love to have my ABS on a switch. ABS sucks in the dirt, stopping in sand is like stopping in snow, the ABS kicks in a keeps the wheels from locking. In sand, locked front wheels stop you fast...

Links to the mod, plzthx.

I don't think the AndyMod (aka ANDYTRAK) disables the abs - i'm pretty sure it takes out the TRAC and VSC (traction control and skid control).

Had no idea that you could switch it off on easily. I'd be stoked to have this too. I HATE ABS in mud.

The "mod" of putting a switch (to break the circuit) in the red wire that goes to the brake master cylinder will just disable your VSC and TRAC stuff... not the ABS. that'd be a different mod but it'd be darn handy.

It's nice that the rear locker disables it when engaged.

someone correct me if I am wrong but doesn't engaging 4 low disengage the ABS? I have yet to get my ABS to lock (even on ice) when in 4 low.

Not really relivent to this thread, but the andymod does disable the ABS as well and TRAC and VSC.

Correct. As soon as I flip my switch, the VSC, TRAC & ABS lights all come on...meaning they've been disabled.

i'm going to keep checking but i went to my yota dealer today and asked about sensors etc for the abs system on my '98, they pulled it up on the computer and showed me that there were some kind of sensors near each wheel and the sensor in the center console area that monitors deceleration, nothing like in the andymod with the sensor in the mastercylinder. since i've got my abs disabled via taking the fuse out i'll see what i need to do for cutting power to the fuse whether that is tapping into the neg or possibly cutting the power wire but using a relay so i don't cause a fire or any other crazy stuff. the switch i'm using is a clutch cancel switch from an earlier 4runner or toyota truck and has a simple on/off to cut into whichever wire i want plus a nifty light that i may or may not use. i'll post updates as they happen since others have expressed an interest.

alas i have no e-locker. and even though it has been suggested that this may be nice to have for off-road purposes, i just don't like abs and want it off about 99% of the time for my own driving pleasure. i know insurance won't like it and the legalities of getting into an accident w/o abs so i don't need any reminders thanks i've always driven abs-less vehicles and like it that way, if i get into an accident i'll know it was MY fault and i was in control and not my stupid abs system. just a personal preference. so, when i get it all figured out i'll post here about it and the info will be out there.
i'll get back to y'all later.
