are all dash bulbs subject to reverse polarity?

I replaced mine with the red LED's I ordered and only one or 2 lit up. (I did it during the day so it was hard to tell.) The package the LED's shipped in said that they would not work if hooked up backwards. I see this after I've done all of this.

I bought some 168 colored bulbs, indstalled them and they look as only half are working.

are the regular bulbs and LED's subject to being hooked up backwards and not working? I need to get hte dash back apart and swap around .......

what could cause the new red bulbs to only light up on one side? It looks like 2 of the 4 bulbs arent working. is the gauge cluster so delicate that if it doesnt like the bulb, it's no workee? I've got to pull everyhting back apart to see for sure, but I think the bulbs were good.
