alcohol as fuel?

If I had to guess this guy is trying to fudge an emissions test. He's from the Republic of California and wants to run it for only 20 minutes. You might want to try blending the alcohol and gasoline if you're trying to cheat the test.

Oh... ok, another smog test cheat! Did they call you a "gross poluter"?
There was a good thread on the Pirate board a little while back about this. I think, like Kyle mentioned, there was some miracle can of wonder goop to add to the engine along w/ denatured alcohol and the guy passed w/ flying colors.

Thank you (every one). I hope to pass the smog test. My plan, oil change, one can of sea foam (I cant find any garuntee to pass smog test stuff) to clean every thing out, and then use 10% isopropanol and 90% premium gas and take the test. I will post the results. After that I will try am get the engine to run properly by doing a valve adjustment and changing the timing chain if needed. Any one have any other ideas to get a slugish 180k 22r running strong besides a complete rebuild?

Don't use premium gas...it burns slower and in a low compression engine like yours it may actually cause your emmissions to go up. The isopropanol may work...it's 27% oxygen. The extra oxygen assists in the combustion of the gasoline. Ethanol is 35% oxygen and methanol is 50% oxygen, by mass.
Try the isopropanol if it's 100% isopropanol but avoid it if it's the 70% stuff you buy in the pharmacy. At 10% I don't think it will hurt your system and it will do no harm to your catalytic converter. If it doesn't work, move up to ethanol. And maybe as a last ditch effort use the methanol (boils at 69 degrees C...vapor lock potential). All alcohols are poisonous (yes...ALL) and Methanol is one of the most poisonous. Isopropanol ain't great either, so use some caution handling them in open areas, plenty of ventilation (don't do this in the garage), they are all explosive in vapor form (his last words were "Watch this") and can be absorbed into the body thru the lungs.
Then do us all a favor and get that pollutin' piece of crap tuned up!
All you probably need is plugs, wires, cap, rotor and it would probably pass on it's own.
