Alarm trouble. Help!!!

Here is where the sensor is located -- in the middle of the picture with a red led on top of it. It's way in the back behind the fuse box. Note the brake padle is on the right bottom side. Don't know if this is a oem or aftermarket.

Thank you for the picture. This entire area under the dash along the firewall is literally empty on my 4runner.
Is there any chance that I have an aftermarket alarm that uses the OEM key fob? Is there a good test to see if I have the OEM alarm or aftermarket? When I lock/unlock the doors I have the typical Toyota chirp noise from under the hood.

A little bit more information: Sometimes the alarm turns on as normal, and sometimes it does not. I know this because somtimes the LED in the center of the dash will just flash when the doors are locked using the FOB, and sometimes it will go solid for 30 seconds and then flash. I also verified that the alarm features that I know about (alarm setting when doors unlocked from inside) are working correctly when the LED goes solid for 30 seconds before flashing. The alarm does not set when unlocked from the inside when the LED goes right to flashing without the 30 seconds of the LED being on solid. I also noticed that the LED seemed to flicker sometimes when it was on solid. I sure wish I could find this alarm module.
Does anybody know if any of the aftermarket alarms are compatible with the stock Toyota key fob? Also, are there any other popular locations to install an aftermarket alarm module?
If it comes to this, would you recommend for me to bring this truck into an alarm shop or to a Toyota service dept? Any advice appreciated.

Okay, no responses for a while. I'll summarize what I have found so far.
Intermittently the alarm will go off; sometimes once every 10 minutes, sometimes not for a week or more. The alarm still goes off with the rear window relay disconnected. I have checked under the drivers seat, at/near the firewall near the steering column, near the radio, near/above/below the drivers right knee behind the panels, above/behind the glove box, under the rear seat, etc. and I cannot find the factory alarm module.
-At times the alarm arms properly (when doors are locked the LED turns on solid for 30 seconds and then flashes until doors are unlocked) and the door lock portion of the alarm works perfectly, however I cannot get the glass breakage sensor to go off (I didn't want to break the window when testing this--not sure if I was hitting the window hard enough).
-Other times when the doors are locked, the LED goes right to flashing without staying solid for the 30 seconds. This is when the alarm seems to malfunction.
Is there any chance that there is an aftermarket alarm hooked up to my vehicle that utilizes the factory LED in the dash, the factory beeper under the hood and the factory 4-button key FOB (lock/unlock/window/panic)? Is there a standard mounting location for aftermarket alarm modules/brains in 3rd gen 4runners? How can I identify if my alarm is OEM or aftermarket?

Maybe I am going about this the wrong way. Does anybody know if there is a specific harness that I can follow the the alarm ECU? I know there are 3 connectors on the alarm ECU, does anybody know where these go or where I can find and identify any of these harnesses or circuits? Thanks.

I tried to trace the wires back from the security LED, but lost them in the bundle where several harnesses come together. Wasn't able to find anything yet again. Would you guys recommend an aftermarket car security shop or a Toyota dealer to help with this problem?

Well, this is still acting up on occasion. Haven't had time to bring it in to the dealer yet.
One trend that I have noticed is that the problem really seems to happen during and after rain/damp weather.
Does anybody know where the switch is that makes sure the hood is fully closed?
