Air Valve?

While troubleshooting my no-start problem (turned out to be the coil BTW), I went through various other checks as well. Got to the Air Valve section and found a potential problem. When the idle adjusting screw on the TB is screwed all the way in once the engie is warmed up, the engine dies.

According to Haynes, "To check operation of the air valve on a V-6, start the engine, then turn the idle speed screww all the way in - while the engine is still cold, the RPMs should drop; when the engine is warmed up, RPMs should NOT drop."

I'm curious if faulty operation of the air valve is messing with the A/F mix and causing a hesitation off idle. Also, where the heck is it?? No picture in the manual. TIA.

I too, haven't been able to locate the valve. I believe it is part of the throttle body.

Check your TPS for the hesitation. Here is a great site on it.

If we're talking about the same part - right rear of the engine, under the intake manifold. Has two parts - one is about the size and shape as a deck of cards, the other looks like a mini EGR valve.

Do you mean the passenger side of the engine? What you are describing sounds like the Reed Valve. Maybe I'm just confused.

Yep to both. Anything else commonly called an 'air valve' is probably between the intake manifold and the air filter.

I was thinking about the TPS as well. The funny thing is, I didn't have this hesitation before I replaced the Ignition coil, and the TPS has not been moved. Plugs ,wires, cap and rotor have also been replaced. Is it possible that the TPS had been tweaked to allow the engine to work with the old worn-out ignition components, but now that they're new the TPS needs to be recalibrated?? Is there a period of time where the computer needs to relearn the new information from these new ignition components in order to run properly? I have cleared codes by unhookeing the NEG. BAT overnight. Is there anything else I need to do in that respect? TIA.
