Amsol looks like it did a better job just looking at the pics with KN coming in second.

Since Amsoil doesnt make a FIPK kit, I got the KN version for my 3.slow and have been happy ever since.

I've ran both K&N and Amsoil filters in my truck and went back to stock paper Toy filters.

Wow, the Amsoil was worse than the K&N... Something us K&N guys knew all along - thank you very much

But also, a poin that is made in the article is that the amount of air coming through the k&n or amsoil is nothing significant for performance, unless you have a high revving beast of an engine that is totally not a street motor. Article said that the common street car will have no benefit with any type of filter media.

Nice....

I am really glad i read this, If you read throughly, you will see that a so called performance filter does little. I personally like my K&N though, for its ease of changing(recharging) and the fact that i do not need to replace it everytime my filter is dirty.... Good work and dedication, i would have forgotten about the testing... thanks for the info....

Yea, I've read that. I will stick to OEM. The stock filter does a good job. Its not really paper anyway but a fuzzy material. I've tried a K&N in my old Tacoma and noticed no difference in performance etc. I wont use a Fram for the 4-cylinder though. It is paper, and my gas mileage went down by 3-4 MPG. The Fram for the 3.0 and the 3.4L looks almost identical to the OEM though with the same fuzzy material.

After reading that article I can't help but wonder how on an oiled filter let alone a cleaned and freshly oiled filter that virtually none of the oil is getting through to the secondary filter. Even if minute amounts of oil coated the secondary filter it would be much more prone to picking up very fine dust particles. While I find the test interesting I personally can't agree with the testing method and the results gained from it. I would also like to see the test on an oiled filter after it's been driven for six months when the oil content is down and the filtering capacity has actually been improved by the trapped layers of dirt on the filter. I always thought that one of the oiled type filters benefits was that they were supposed to be superior when dirty not specifically new and clean.

I got rid of my Amsoil air filter and went back to OEM. But only because re-oiling the filter is more of a pain in the ass than dropping a couple of bucks on a new one.

Let me get this straight:

You got two OEM Toyota filters for the 5VZ for $7...

Oh do tell.

Let me know also. I used to have a link for a Toyota dealer (in TX I believe). I would print out their coupons to use at my dealer. I got oil filters for $1.50-2, air filters for $5-6 ea, and red coolant for $7-8. I lost the link, but that price for filters sounds close. My dealer coundn't believe how cheap they sold them, but still honored the prices.
