i will be:

stay tuned.

thats what it looks right now, im doing basically a test drive for a month with it in the car, figuring out whats wrong with it, what needs to be changed. etc. once i get it perfect, ill start fabbing them as orders come in. it will be available with or without the carpc brackets. if you order with out, there will me a much larger tray up top, with the carpc, it will be considerably more shallow. it will eventually come with cupholders.

i feel your pain on the center console, the stock one is the most worthless POS ever. thats why i started building mine from scratch.

I saw this started in the Interior thread... I'll keep an eye on it. I won't need the CAR PC in it, Have you thought of how you are going to finish the sides and such?

looks like a rust stained carpet is almost a sure thing with that set up.

Looks easier to just find a wrecked '99+ and yank the console and do the swap which is worth the cupholder relocation since dash mounted drinks are just a timebomb for a disaster on-road and useless off road.

well im not sure of rust stained carpet, as i dont go swimming with my truck, and it will all be throughly coated in paint, with rubber on the places where it touches the carpet.

this uses the stock bracket for the console from a 98, im assuiming 96 and 97's are the same.

as for the outside, it will be most likely covered in abs plastic, working out how to do that with as little seams as possible. currently on mine, the left side is welded on, 22guage sheetmetal. im thinking i will go with that on all but the front side.

96-98 dont have cup holders in the front part of the center console, the top of mine was cracked, too low for my arm to sit on comfortably, storage was useless.

for me, it was a chance to build a new one that housed my carpc, solved the cupholder problem, solved the height issue, and allowed me to generally customize my interior to my own liking.

seanz0rz-- i am VERY interested in getting one of those consoles from you, let me know whenever you get that done, b/c that would be great, I can stand my (bleep)ing cupholders and console, way too small, yours sounds awesome
