Accurate ambient temp gauge.....a simple test

o.k........lets beat this dead horse since I Still can't figure out how the late model cars read accurate ambient temps with radiated heat all around the sensor......not to mention the sizzling sun.

Test - I put 2 digital temp gauges in my runner with one sensor up front behind the foglight hole near the valence and one under the truck next to the gas tank away from the exhaust (drivers side).

After getting to operating temperature the heat from all the drivetrain was sending the rear unit up 12 degrees while the front unit was steady.
Stop at a light and the front unit went up 8 degrees in the time of a red light
and the rear unit fell 5 degrees.
Ambient temps/----- high 60's

So you could imagine the front unit sitting in a parking lot after driving would max out in a few minutes or get pretty close just from the radiant heat souces near by. Boy......I'm still baffled. Kenny S>
