Abrupt new noise from my 85 runner...

Its kind of a Grinding - Rubbing noise. I thought (hoped) it was somthing rubbing against my front tire. My local mechanic heard it and He thought it was the bearings, but after I pulled the wheel off and replaced both sets of bearings, the sound is still there. Its coming from the front drivers side, it starts after I get up to 20 - 25 mph. The sound goes up when I accelerate, down when I decelerate. It stops when I stop, but starts back up around 20 - 25 mph.
I haven't done any off-roading, towing, curb jumping ect, ect. Its pretty much a daily driver.
Oh yeah, now my local mechanic is out of town for a week, so I'm stuck.
Any Ideas??

take out the hub dial and take a drive, if it stops, then the hub is not releasing all the way, or just lock the hubs and drive it, either way you will eliminate the hubs as a possible source

Does it do it if you just jack it up and spin the tire?
Have you checked the brakes? Could be as simple as having rock inside the backing plate.
