99 Runner retro wheel refresh
I've been refreshing my 99 runner to bring it back up to a higher standard. I figured all 3rd gen wheels are silver on silver and i remember the older runners has manual hubs that were usually black.
I am using a new rustoleum paint called supermaxx that sticks to wood, plastic, concrete and laminates.
no sanding. Here's the refreshed retro color combo.
Afrer making a bunch of tubes to cover lugnuts, valve stems and a jig to not have to mask the tire...i figure i can do a complete 4 wheel refurb in about 3 hrs or less.

Looks awesome, Here is my 1997 rims after stripping them down sandblasting and refinishing, I use these as my winter rims and they held up great., they match my Silver 1999 perfectly, but I do prefer the look of my 1999 5 stars better, it even makes the trucks stance look better for some reason, they must have a different offset, or its and illusion. Another trick is to put thick grease on the tire and then paint let day and wash grease off, but thats pretty hillbilly.

I went for the quick refresh.....a quick spray of a few coats
Of new technology paint. I figured if i can do it in just an afternoon, it can be spruced up once a year or two.
I was trying to avoid the involved wheel process and did the job with wheels on the car.
The rustoleum supermaxx paint seems to make the wheel look like new.... not a new color which was my objective.
So any imperfections or scratchs are invisible.
I also shot the centercaps satin black supermaxx paint and detailed the toyota emblem with a Casemate metallic silver marker. Worked great !! I just used a curved strip of thin plastic to form a mask off jig. No masking tape. Then just wipe the tire off with alcohol.
No overspray.
