99 4Runners with TRD headers

I need to do a little bit of research for an up coming project.

First of all, does the 99 v6 4Runner come with one cat or two if any of you know? Is it different in Cali then the rest of the country?

If the 99 4Runner comes with two cats, do any of you have TRD headers on a 99 4Runner?

Thanks guys!

99 4Runner has 2 cats in CA, outside of CA only 1 cat **though I've heard that CA-spec vehicles are sometimes distributed to states with stricter air issues (like New York).
TRD makes a header for each (different part numbers for CA-spec and non-CA).

I can check mine to see if it has two cats in the morning. I don't have headers, though.

mine's a 99 CA model, has 2 cats. Heard all 4runners went to 2 cats in either 2000 or 2001, just saw a post about it a couple days ago.

It must be 2001. My 2000 only has 1 cat. Or it might have been a mid-year change.

Mine has two things that could both be cats. Stupid question... How do you know if it's a cat or not? I've heard that one of them is a resonator.

Gadget,

If you need pics, let me know. I'll be happy to snap a couple and send them to you.

Its gotta be a second cat. I have never heard of a 3rd gen with a stock resonator.

Resonators are generally long and fairly skinny, cats are normally fatter and shorter.

Sounds like a few people that I know!

Great.

Does anyone have twin cats with TRD headers on any year 4Runner?

If so I need a picture of where the headers meet the cats.

Thanks!

Are the cats built into the pipes on the headers or are they bolt on? If they are bolt on buy the one cat header and have a straight pipe made to connect where the second one would be to the exhaust. Or buy the one cat header and exhaust combo and you should be golden. Sorry if you guys lost me, I'm used to the tuner world that I kinda got out of but if we didnt want those power robbin cats we bought straight pipes. Illegal definatly, but if you have a straight pipe and you still have one cat, you can prolly pass emmissions.

Actually Adam, on a N/A engine, especially with low compression and basically stock parts, removing the cat will hurt you in real world driving situations. We are talking about 3500lb trucks that need the low end torque.

I know what you are saying, but I thought I would point that out.

What area of the tuner world did you come from? Honda here.

Ya, I had a 97 Acura Type R. White with white wheels (only thing offered but still sick). It was fun but I went off to school and sold her. Now I am carless but going to get a 4Runner cuz I already have too many speeding tickets. Anyways, mods were:
toda cams
apexi n1 exhaust
DC sports header
high flow cat (straight pipe for track)
AEM cold air
tein coilovers
swaybars front and back
blah blah blah..... had a lotta money cuz i had been saving money since i was a kid and worked and spent it all on her, it was nice but i kinda regret it cuz when i was done i was 100% broke. got 17 grand in my pockets now and saving up for a 2000 4Runner. Thinking about gettin a WRX but I dont think i would have a license for very much longer after that. What did you ride?

[Threadjack - sorry Gadget]

That Legend sounds sweet. I had a 95 Civic SI. Gude cam/ecu, AEM CAI, DC Header, Tanabe Exhaust, FPR, Full MSD ignition, stripped 150lbs out of it. Best time was a 15.1 @ 92.9 MPH. Stock I ran a 16.8.

Good choice in vehicles man. The 2000 4Runners are sweet. You may be able to score a 99 for a cheaper price, and the 99's have basically everything the 00's have. Just a thought.

BTW, I scored a 2000 5 speed w/18K miles on ebay for $15k. It was a unique case, but it can happen. Just keep your eyes peeled. Best of luck.

First of all its not a lengend, its an integra. Cummon, you knew that also the only reason i was looking at 2000's is because usually they had less miles, but the 99 is a definatly possiblilty if i find the right one. I miss the tuner sceen, but just cant go back or ill kill myself.
