99 4runner v6 4wd power loss at 60mph
Hey everyone,
So i'm cruising along at 65mph @ 2000-2100 RPMS and i'm experiencing a power loss. It's not an on off stutter like a bad plug or wire. The rpms abruptly drop to about 1800 and stay there until i play with the gas pedal. Its also intermittant problem.
The power does revive but the initial power drop is pretty clear cut.
Almost always on the hwy at hwy speeds and the
Plugs, wires were changed and mass airflow cleaned. No check engine light.
Any ideas?? Thx!!

Might also check for pending codes, not all of them will set a CEL.
Is it running smoothly when this happens? Is it changing gears (not familiar with the automatic transmissions on them) - perhaps a flaky TPS triggering an upshift?

Thanks for the reply.
I changed out the TPS a few months back after it was setting a check engine light. It almost feels like you turned the car off. A quick rpm drop.
A faster drop than taking your foot off the gas pedal.
I almost thought it was wind gusts hitting the car when it first happened on saturday.

Runs great otherwise......i did notice the RPMs hi when i got home from work. In park...1200rpms.
That seemed strange. I would not doubt a possible bad tps switch. Aftermarket parts are junk these days!

the only other possible symptom is random stalling in high heat (113+) with AC on......at a traffic light.
It also stalled in park yesterday while sitting in my driveway.
Again....i installed an aftermarket TPS switch recently after the original triggered the check engine light.

Strange......i was doing an oil change 2 days ago and decided to do a throttle body cleaning just in case.
I do one twice a year.
I have not felt that power loss stumble in 2 days.
Praying it could be that easy......
