'99 4runner transfer case vacuum line?
I have a 99 4runner Limited 3.4v6, auto, no-locking rear diff, J-shifter with 4wd button. I was at the beach the other day and i accidentally hit the 4wd button while in 4hi. Afterward it took a long time, about 2 miles to completely disengage 4wd (flashing indicator). The center diff was not locked.
I checked under the truck and found a vacuum line hanging off what looks like a vacuum assisted selector on the drivers side of the transfer case. When I tried to reattach it i found that it was rotten and not connected to anything on the other end. I cannot find any information on this anywhere. (just lots of info on ADD front diff)
Does anyone know where this vacuum line routes to? I assume under the hood somewhere, but i cannot find any place missing a line. (side note,: it may not be original transfer case. it looks rebuilt)
Also, everything i read about the limited is that the front hubs are live, with an add locking sleeve, but i have vacuum lines going to the back of the hubs. I have to assume the hubs a auto-locking. Is this a special option? I was considering getting manual locking hubs until i saw that.

about the vacuum lines going to the hub, you might be referring to the brake lines going into the front calipers?
about the transfer case, try this site:

I checked again to make sure it wasnt my old tired eyes...Took a pic to share...it is definitely a vacuum line to the hubs.
Here is a pic of the transfer case.

OK i have solved the hub mystery...im looking at the ABS sensor. DUH.
Back to the core issue. the vacuum line on the tcase. Is it possible a vent tube on the actuator? I know there is a vent tube in top of the case. maybe a second one as well?

Looking at the diagram it looks like the vent hose routes from the lower to the upper. Is this correct? How would the t'-case actually "breath" if that is where it connects? That would explain the short length if true.
The sluggish disengage may have been a fluke by me confusing the system. I cannot get it to reproduce.

I think that one vents from the VSV and chain drive into the transfer case wherein there is another vent in the upper portion of the transfer case. sluggish response sometimes happens. recommend that you regularly engage 4H from time to time by pushing on the 4WD button BUT do not shift the transfer lever to H4L unless you need to.

I finally figured out the venting on this after looking at your diagram and another pic i found in another forum thread on breather relocation. There are two vents on top and one lower on the actuator. Thank you for your help!
