99 4runner highlander - autocheck report
So I'm pretty stoked about buying a 99 SR5 "highlander", it's even got the diff lock. BUT, I wanted to check it out on carfax / autocheck... here's what I'm wondering about:
at 102,000, in march 08, it says "VEHICLE TITLED/REGISTERED TO AN INSURANCE COMPANY "
doesn't seem like it's been driven since, because it's advertised as having 102k and it's 2010.
I've googled around and it looks like salvaged vehicles usually say "possible total loss, or possible loss" before that. This autocheck says it clears on everything else, but you know how these reports can miss stuff. But it says "no record of accidents..." I'm wondering if there's a way that it's not a red flag.
what do you guys think? steer clear, or drive an hour to go check it out?
thanks!

Steer clear. By googling the terms "VEHICLE TITLED/REGISTERED TO AN INSURANCE COMPANY" I see it associated with only negative events (Possible Total Loss-), or subsequent to a negative event. The lack of mileage increase in two years also throws up flags to me. If you have time to go for a weekend drive, there is no harm checking it out, but be very suspicious and keep your checkbook at home.

Run the Carfax as a backup to see if any problems show up there. I have seen instanced where one will list a major collision and the other shows up clean. If its a dealer/insurance company, then they should have no problem showing you both printouts.
