98 runner cd player

I don't know what to tell you. I don't think mine has ever had any problem except for dirty/scratched CDs.
I know this sounds dumb but you're not burning them in MP3 format are you, you're converting them?

Some older CD players won't play burned CDs at all. Burned CDs tend have to have smaller encoding "pits". Sometimes it depends on the brand of CD or the burner itself. I think Yamaha once made an "archive quality" burner. You can try a CD lens cleaner. It is a CD with a small brush that wipes the laser lens clean. I know Best Buy carries them.

What was really weird was that my old old CD players never had any problem. Then when people started burning music is when I started having problems with players reading burned CDs. Now most don't have a problem. Odd huh?

Maybe it doesn't approve of stolen music??? Probably not though...
I don't have any burnt CDs but I can tell you my stock CD player sucked. It skipped over anything so I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't recognize a burnt CD.

if youre burning them in a wma or mp3 format it wont work. unless Toyota made a factory radio do that. my moms sequoia and my dads tundra played burnt cds though. my 4runner doesnt have one. well, im actually about to go buy one. but it doesnt now. my dads 90 4runner plays them too. check to see what format it makes them. that might be it.
