98 LMTD 4wd light doesnt illuminate
Hey there guys this is my first post on this forums even tho I come here all the time . I have 1998 4runner limited with 121k on it. I bought the car in colorado back when I was stationed at Ft. Carson. When I lived there I would go wheeling all the time with my buds but when I moved back to cali in 2006 one day I noticed the 4wd light doesnt turn on anymore when I push the actuator switch. So after almost three years of no 4wd and my wife getting a new car and the 4runner becoming mine again I want my 4wd BAck lol. I am currentley taking classes at a junior college to become a mechanic . So i decided to trouble shoot why it isnt working at first I htought maybe the bulb burnt out I took the dash apart its fine, second i tested the switch with my multi meter it was fine within specs. After doing those two things the repair program we have on the school computer didnt have anymore tests for me to check that was it . So this what happens I push the switch i hear the transfer case engage but when I put my 4runner on the lift only the rear tire was spinning soo....I dont know what to inspect/test anything would be helpfull SORRY for the wall of text lol thanks for the help

You have the Limited, so you have the all wheel drive mode. The button on the T-case lever should allow you to shift on the fly from 2-hi to 4-hi, this also allows you to drive in 4-hi on dry pavement. Try putting it on the lift & manually shift to 4-hi or 4-lo & see what happens. The ADD may be sticking or there may be a vacuum leak. Don't forget to check all your fuses.

I have it, and I wouldnt recommend it. not only is it more wear on cv shafts.but also increases the risk for torn boots with modest lift. Due to the fact that the shafts are always spinning even in 2 wheel drive.I dont see any benefit. sure you can shift to 4wheel at freeway speed but who cares. would much rather have 2hi, 4hi gear selector with manual movement of the stick.
Just my 2 cents
