It does that to shorten it so you don't see a mile long URL across your screen once it's posted.

The whole URL is actually there if you click on edit your post.
You will see it's all there.

One neat thing too about the software here is a lot of forums won't let you post a long link when you enclose it in code, or a clickable word you create for everyone to click on.
Not so here.
The URL can be a mile long and in most cases it will take.
Hmm... an interesting "feature"

I guess I will have to use the old stand by; Click Here, instead of pasting in the whole thing

Yeah, both ways work, but if it's a long one, you won't be able to copy it unless you click the link and open up the page, then copy the real URL from it's site.

Now here is a real long URL.
http://www.performanceproducts.com/p...dorid=&search=

The URL above is 288 charactors long, but the forum will shrink it down in size to one simple line to 56 charactors.
Pretty cool 'eh

This is also one of those real long URLs that will make other forums choke and it won't become a clickable link, even if you do it the way you did in your post.

When I click it, it's for my '91 4Runner.
I'm also cookied on that site, so that might make a difference.

It must be a bug. I have never been there but it defaults my vehicle to being a "1999 CHEVROLET CAMARO".

Damn, and me without a mullet...

Take a deep breath and go slowly. It's really not a big deal. It's not much worse than changing your oil, so I always wonder why people pay hundreds of dollars to have it done.

Oh hell. I can do this

Hey Data,

According to my factory service manual, they call it a "Front Differential, Side, Oil-Seal" and they do not list a part number for it. They DO list it as a "Non-Reusable Part", so they expect you to change it out when you have the axles out.

I would expect that any dealership parts counter will know EXACTLY what you are talking about and have it on hand.

It is covered in the "Suspension and Axle" section of the book, in the sub section "Front Differential Carrier, 4WD" and it is the lowest, right, referenced part in the exploded diagram.

They don't give any special installation requirements, just remove the old seal, and tap the new one in evenly, flush with the edge the the differential housing.

Good luck my friend. I am conviced you will do well with this. I am off to go revamp my suspension... I will touch base with you this evening.

is there an easy way to pry off the axle nut cover?? that is the only thing that is holding me back so far. i've tried a small flat headed screw driver, but that doesn't seem to cut the mustard

I use a metal putty knife. Just make sure it's one of the really rigid ones, not the flexible type for finishing corners

You can use a wood chisel too, but you must be careful not to dent the dust cap.

You have a PM response

yeah, i know...bringing a thread back from the dead. i was curious if anyone knew of the proper part numbers for the front axle seal. apparently mine decided to go on me. the local dealer could do nothing in terms of helping, so here is what i had him order me after looking at the computer with him:

90311-47010 oil seal 24.54
90311-47011 oil seal 17.13
90520-39023 c-clip 3.70
90520-75002 c-clip 7.06

total: 55.05

he orderred both sides (even though i only need the drivers), and i had him order both c-clips to have should they need to be replaced. sound about right? and any idea which one is for the drivers side?
