HELP PLZ ,98 4runner transfer case noise

hey guys
98 4cyl 4X4 sr5 auto

as i was driving in from work today noticed a noise coming form the tranny/transfer case area...sounds like the grinding of when the brakes are finished.....but low noise.

so just to test i put in 4L and it starts making this loud whining noise as i drove away.....so i stop and i drop the transfer case shifter back to neutral and press on the gaz....the whining gets louder.

i can reproduce this any time.

ANY IDEAS on what this could be?

sounds like it'll cost alot of $$.

any help is apreciated ....thank you

Have you checked your transfer case oil level? Might be a decent starting place...

that was it

the dum a** that changed my transfer case and tranny oil a couple of month back forgot to tighten the bolt right so ALL the fluid leaked out...

thank god i dont have any damage.
