Talking 98 4runner steal

Hey guys I posted a few weeks ago regarding my 1998 4runner that i purchased from my co worker for 400 dollars. post was under this section under "Is it worth it". After consulting with a mechanic friend i was told that what he thinks happened is that when they removed the bolt from the harmonic balancer and the crankshaft that they used a impact wrench instead of the right tool and it stripped the threads at the end of the crankshaft.

He lent me his scope with a camera and i looked at the threads after about 4 threads on the inside of the crankshaft they are perfect so it confirms his thoughts.. He said if the bolt is good just screw it back in. All in all i believe that I just got a 98 4 runner with no rust for the cost of a new waterpump which was the original issues to being with....98 4 runner for 400$...

What do you guys think of these water pumps?

Should i stay away from ebay deals or would it be ok to buy? Should I replace the timing belt or keep the one it has if its good?

Thanks Guys

From what he said there is a special tool that is used with a protector sleave to protect the threads at the end of the shaft and they didnt use the sleave. he knows this bc he has done it himself... Does this sound legit

I'll be the first to say it cause lots of people will follow with the same suggestion...go with Toyota OEM always. And your second link is broken

I'm still trying to comprehend that somebody let a 98 go for $400. What a deal. And for inexpensive OEM parts I use my buds at TRDPARTS4U.com

yes the 2nd link does not connect- it likely expired or whatever.
