'98 4runner with bad supercharger

I have a '98 4runner limited and the bearings in the supercharger are making a terrible noise. A mechanic friend told me to not drive it until I get it either rebuilt or buy a new one to not harm the engine. It has 185000 miles on it so I have no interest in spending 3k on a new supercharger.

Does anyone know what removing it and going stock would entail? I have heard that I need to change to fuel injectors back if I do that. I am looking for the cheapest way to get it back on the road. Is a rebuild a good option?

Send the SC out to magnuson and get it rebuilt. You should be good to go.

Another vote for sending it in to be rebuilt.

To answer your oringinal post, yes you can hunt down a new intake manafold and undo any fuel delivery mods but if you have a super charger and it is just making noise due to needing a rebuild the best option is to send it to Magnuson for rebuilding.

http://www.magnusonproducts.com/remanufacturing.htm

May I suggest to at least call them before making a final decision.

Good luck

It depends on how you drive them. If you drive like grandma i actually get better gas mileage after the supercharger.

But with the extra power comes extra temptation to give it the beans. In which case yes gas mileage will drop off some.

You will also need more fuel to keep from leaning out.

To answer your question, it is not that hard to remove the supercharger. You do not need to remove the injectors as long as it was just a basic trd supercharger on the car (no fuel mods.) A rebuild can go from 350 for the nose cone to close to 1000 for a full rebuild a hear.

Thanks Everybody. I was pulling the SC off to send it to Magnuson when I realized that the pulley was so badly worn it had about 1/2 inch of play in it. This was my noise. I am looking for the right pulley right now. Suggestions on the size? I am sot sure what the exact size of the current one is because they make them within one tenth of an inch and I don't want to be wrong when I order it.

You still need to send the SC in no matter what. they are supposed to be rebuilt every ~60k miles, you are WAY past the limit.

Far as the pulley to get, unless you have fuel mods you need to stick with a stock pulley. Even it needs fuel but anything more and you must have fuel.
