James-not sure this applies to you in any way but it's along the same lines.

I know it's a little outdated But I had this same problem.

Was able to pull everything off from the inside and get to the lock.
Soaked it in PB blaster for an hour and it works perfectly.
The hardest part was getting acess to the two small phillips screws that hold the actual lock mechanism in place.
Drilled a small hole through the piece of metal blocking the bottom screw and it was pretty simple.

Good luck and hopefully this helps someone else.

P.S. it is very handly to be able to roll the rear window up and down from the rear hatch.

I know this thread is ancient but I finally got around to tackling this and wanted to post results for anyone reading. Turns out, the lock cylinder was replaced prior to me owning the T4R. I suspect previous owner had the rear license plate bezel replaced (minor fender bender?) and whomever replaced the bezel did not swap lock cylinders; hence, why my keys would not work. So, I pretty easily removed the lock cylinder (thanks to other how-to threads) and carried it into a locksmith. For $40 locksmith did not make a key to work the cylinder but even better, rekeyed the cylinder to match my existing keys. Everything works just fine!

Nailed that it happens all to often.

As that is just a switch to open and close the window people figure they can live without needing to use it.

wyoming9: not sure what you meant by your first part...and yes I totally agree, many people do not fix it unless it makes sense to them. That is why, for me, I did not tackle it for such a long time (see my earlier posts). But, last few months having that access would really have come in handy but, at least now it will going-forward. I wish I would have fixed it much sooner because it ended up being an easier/quicker/cheaper fix than originally expected. Maybe if others know it is not that big of a deal to fix more people might do it.
